How to enable two-factor authentication (2FA)

Short.io supports the two-factor authentication (or 2FA) via specialized authenticator applications.

Once installed and launched on your mobile device, the authenticator generates one-time password which you need to enter in addition to your usual login details.

Note

The below setup of 2FA in Short.io will be demonstrated with the help of Google Authenticator. But you can use another authentication app of your choice, including but not limited to: Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, Apple Passwords.

To enable 2FA in Short.io

  1. Download the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device from one of the following websites depending on the device type:

  2. Sign in to your Short.io account.

  3. Expand the Settings menu and click on Profile.

  4. Navigate to the Security option:

  5. Enable the Two-factor authentication. A QR code appears:

  6. Open the Google Authenticator app and scan the above QR code with it.

  7. The app will display a combination of digits that you need to enter in the code field:

  8. Click on Enable.

The 2FA authentication is successfully set.

Log in to Short.io with 2FA

  1. After you enable the 2FA, the next time when you try to log in to Short.io with your credentials, you will be asked to provide a 2FA code:

  2. Open the Google Authentication app and paste the generated code in the above field.

  3. Click on Verify to complete the login process.
