# How to create a link in Short.io

You can proceed directly to the [video tutorial](#video-tutorial) or follow the provided instructions:

1. Sign in to your [Short.io](https://short.io/) account.

2. In the Dashboard, [choose a domain for link shortening](/category/domain-setup-guides.md) and type or paste the long URL you wish to shorten:

3. In the next dialog, you have the option to either accept the automatically generated [slug](/articles/useful-articles/what-is-a-url-slug.md) or modify it to suit your preferences:

4. **Save** the settings and click **Close**.

The newly created short link appears in the **All links** tab:
